What do you like about it? The earthy colors?

Laissez-faire
09-09-2006, 10:08 PM
It's serene. The shades give it warmth. The composition of the shot could have been really foreboding (an attic stairway, the intimation of what lies beyond), but the tones (soft yellows, wooden tones), as well as the homeliness of odd details (the crack in the wall decoration) makes it seem inviting, instead. Finally, the typeface is perfect, matching the composition -- very graceful, with the forward italicisation reflecting (and supporting) the welcoming feel, overall.

S'what I meant, you know. Earthy colors = warmth = inviting and so on.

It matches the music, so if you've heard the album then the cover becomes even more effective. I actually saw it after listening to the album, so the effect worked perfectly for me.

Note to self: You don't go clubbing, so stop using stupid analogies. Assfag.

But rly, I have a feeling this'll make you pee your pants. It's just so damn sexy. Make sure you got yo' shit up loud, 'cause it demands it. There's just something about a frog pronouncing words like 'dayne-jur-us' as 'den-jhoor-uuus'. Mmmm.

Still, it's not as good as HardFi. Srsly.

Man, I just saw that shit in Music. Not to say that Linkin Park isn't shite, but hey, if you're gonna pull that line, y'know... make sure there's reason to back it up.

Why can't more asians be like me, as opposed to just asians, or fake white people. Stupid asians.

Wait, of course they can't be more like me. Ah, sometimes I forget my own brilliance.

Ahahahsgahagahagahagagagaga.

Now post this whole thing, including the song, in the "Zeeky recommends Homme+'s music" section of Mongolshake. Yeah, I saw you recommend The Chap. And he ain't even that good. Godamn, I'm hardcore. Now, I'm going to have a bath, just so I have an excuse to touch my beautiful body.

I think you're talking about immediacy. That's the point, sometimes there's no need for immediacy. Sometimes, you should just fall into the texture.

But anyway, something a little more immediate:

Oh, and pretty much one of the best songs I've heard this year. Jim James' voice is just breathtaking:

My Morning Jacket, Gideon (http://www.sendspace.com/file/rngkdb)

"Gideon, what have you told us at all?
Make a sound, come down off the wall
Religion, should appeal to the hearts of the young
Who are you?
What have you become?

You animal
Come on
What does this remind you of?

Truly, truly we have become
Hated and feared for something that we don't want
Listen, listen
Most of us believe that this is wrong

You animal
Come on
What does this remind you of?
What does this remind you of?
Animal
Come on
What does this remind you of?
Animal
Come on"

Fucking amazing.

I'm only four tracks into Grown Man Business, and it's very nice. Peter Pan Syndrome is fantastic, and the loop on Forget Me Not? Damn, Motown all over again.

I'm really enjoying it. I get what you were saying about the lightness of it, but I don't think it suffers by comparison with The Essance, simple because... they're different sides of his approach? Something like that.

This is only four tracks in, mind. Haha.

Twice through.

First half is great, but from track seven onwards (yeah, including One Step Beyond, whose beat I wasn't feeling so much) it kind of dipped a little. Not bad, just that the first half (especially the slick soul hooks) was sweet. Last two tracks haul it back.

Nice album, kind of a nice break from other stuff.

For One Night Only!

So, your thoughts on Max Richter?

For One Night Only!
10-06-2006, 10:25 PM
Really beautifully put together pieces, at points it swept me away in listening to it, completely losing what I was doing. Notably on Autumn Music 2, that is a really lovely piece, it just drew me in from the moment it began. Time Passing was probably my favourite piece including his poetry.

However, at other points it was a bit hollow and left me wondering whether this was one of his more experimental pieces of work. Lullaby was one piece that I couldn't appreciate, I think it was lost on me.

Jason Molina; Let Me Go Let Me Go Let Me Go (http://www.sendspace.com/file/7uq9v4)

The final track from the album of the same name. And the best individual song I have heard, all year.

There is something lacking in both albums, but this is Jason Molina and you can never put him down. There is something almost physically broken about his delivery in this song, as though, by some strange metaphysical twist, he is singing amidst actual experience. That odd delivery, whereby he never really sings until the moment decrees and the words demand. And, as you reach the mark of five minutes and five seconds, you hear the pinnacle of this. As anguished a delivery of words as I've ever heard.

There is something just so perfect about this song and, at the same time, something so horribly perfect.

Laissez-faire

Makes perfect sense. La Foret is generally the one I listen to, front to back, but this is as good as anything they've done. The cello (is it a cello? -- strings, in any case) during the chorus breakdown are so eerie, yet melancholy.

Extra track from the official release of Yndi Halda's EP, Enjoy Eternal Bliss:

Yndi Halda; A Song For Starlit Beaches (http://www.sendspace.com/file/drtyay)

It comes in as track three on the official release, with Illuminate My Heart, My Darling! becoming track four.

As lovely as it is, I have to say it makes the EP less perfect, for me; I thought each of the three tracks that formed the initial release were all, in their own way, perfect, making for a pretty flawless EP. This new, official track is the longest yet (and, if you have the EP already, you know that's saying something), clocking in at around nineteen minutes. I guess that's one reason why it's slightly weaker than the other three tracks; Illuminate My Heart... was, previously, the longest track, but balanced it by having the most stunning structure and melody (not just of the EP, but generally speaking, regards Post Rock songs I've heard). A Song For Starlit Beaches suffers by this comparison, in that the bridge between the opening and close has its dips; a pretty enough string section isn't ably enough backed by further instrumentation enough, at times leaving this necessity to a rather tame piano line. The aforementioned opening and close, however, are very beautiful. Oh, and they sing a little, on this one.

Y'know what's annoying? I had this offered to me, leaked, two weeks ago. I can't for the life of me remember why I don't have it.

Are you sure that's the proper version, 'cause there was a really shitty leak going around for a long while...?

This is the supposed "high quality" webrip at 192kbps. I've not heard it, I just got the link for you.

I'd download it and check it for you first, but I'm not at home.

Hold on, lemme get another link.

S'all good. I'll get the CD, I've heard some horror stories about the leaks, especially about how the songs are sometimes completely different and sound like horseshit. I'm gutted 'cause I know the guy who offered had a legit copy.
